Our 21st century neighborhood needs collaboration tools that are as useful as the ones we use in our daily lives, both at home and at work. Google Workspace has all the pieces that we need for working on documents together, sharing documents securely, streaming videos, getting neighborhood-wide responses to important questions, and growing as quickly as we need to. As a non-profit (501 c 3) corporation, the volunteer-run LCA qualifies for a free Google Workspace subscription, so we are slowly building out some new community features on this base. This web site is only the public facing portion of the Google Workspace that we are using, with Google Docs, Google Shared Drive and other tools running in the background.
Yes. The existing platform is relatively inexpensive, and we have a large technology investment in the Ladera Directory, which is a critical part of what we think of as Ladera.
At this time, the newly revitalized Ladera Emergency Preparation organization and its child Firewise are the main users. The LCA board is collecting all the historical documents into a single shared drive, and will begin transitioning more work to the Ladera Community workspace. The Crier team and the Ladera Book Club are candidates, but both of them have existing workflows that they seem to be satisfied with.
Our current plan is to make the tools available to any community related group in Ladera which needs collaboration and coordination, and which is authorized by the LCA Board to be given access.
You can email webmaster@laderacommunity.org, and we will promptly answer you. Please keep in mind that we are all volunteers, and we have lives to live, so we can handle some things easily, and others will be added to our long list of wishes. If you ask for something and say you can implement it, that certainly makes it easier for us to say yes.
A FAQ page is hardly ever answering truly frequently asked questions. This page, like many such pages, is the set of questions that someone (me) thinks are interesting questions. If you have an infrequently asked question please submit it. Answering questions is usually much easier than adding some feature to the workspace.
