A disaster is an event where local emergency services are overwhelmed. The purpose of the Ladera Emergency Preparedness (LEP) organization is to help organize the residents of Ladera to be able to support each other when no outside help is available. In the first days of a disaster, it is likely that there will be no cell phone or internet service, there may be no power or water or gas. Local and regional emergency services will focus first on the most critically impacted areas, which may not be in Ladera.
Ladera is situated only a few miles from the San Andreas Fault, which also marks the boundary of the High Risk zone for wildfire.
Ladera Emergency Preparedness (LEP) is a small team of volunteers to help the Ladera community prepare for and respond to a major emergency, most likely an earthquake or wildfire. Preparedness includes educating residents and inspiring residents to prepare their own home and family for disaster response. Immediately after the disaster strikes, we will set up a central gathering point, most likely at the LRD parking lot, and at this Community Hub, we will organize to help each other by sharing information, skills, equipment, and resources.
Ladera is divided into 27 blocks, each with a block captain who helps the residents prepare for emergency, whether wildfire or earthquake or other disaster
