The LEP/HQ is a 40' shipping container for our equipment and emergency supplies, to which we are planning to add lighting, new lighting and earthquake tie-downs as well as refurbishing supplies
In August, 2025, the LEP conducted a disaster drill, simulating the aftermath of a major earthquake
In May, 2025, we held an Emergency Preparation and Firewise Fair for all Ladera residents
The LEP is a volunteer supported effort. We need help in many areas, and welcome participation both small and large.
Our efforts include emergency preparation as well as emergency response. Preparation is all that happens before the disaster strikes, where the response activities are in the aftermath. In the roughly 25 years that the LEP has been in existence, there has been a lot of preparation, including drills, but we have yet to be called to respond to a disaster. We hope that record will continue, but must be ready when it inevitably happens.
We have a core group of leaders called the LEP Council, who help to set direction, and a larger group of block captains, who provide emergency planning and response for each defined block in Ladera, each encompassing from 20 to 30 homes. The council and the block captains are heavily involved in both the preparation activities as well as the response activities.
